Sabres Advance Without Ostlund and Carrick in Second Round

In a significant turn of events, the Buffalo Sabres will enter the second round of the playoffs without key players Noah Ostlund and Sam Carrick. Head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed their absence on Sunday.
Sabres’ First Round Success
In the first round of the playoffs, the Sabres successfully eliminated the Boston Bruins in six games. Their next opponent will be determined after the final game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Montreal Canadiens.
Player Injuries Impacting Team Dynamics
- Noah Ostlund: Suffered a lower-body injury in the fifth game against the Bruins. The injury occurred after a collision involving teammate Casey Mittelstadt. Ruff indicated that the news regarding Ostlund was not positive, though no timeline for his return has been provided.
- Sam Carrick: Out with a upper-body injury he sustained during a matchup against Anders Lee of the New York Islanders on March 31. Carrick had been a recent addition to the team, joining from the New York Rangers on March 6 and contributing five goals in 13 games.
Ostlund’s Regular Season Performance
Ostlund, 22, had a solid regular season before his injury. He tallied 27 points, including 11 goals and 16 assists, across 60 games.
Looking Ahead
The Sabres are set to host either the Lightning or the Canadiens for game one of the second round, scheduled for Wednesday at 7 PM ET. The team will continue to adapt in light of these injuries as they aim for further playoff success.
