Christmas Gun Violence in Chicago: 7 Shot, 1 Killed, Police Report

On Christmas night in Chicago, a spate of gun violence resulted in a tragic toll. At least seven individuals were shot, with one victim succumbing to his injuries, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.

Fatal Incident Details

The fatal shooting occurred around 10:11 p.m. in the 7400-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, situated in the Park Manor neighborhood. The victim, a man in his 30s, sustained gunshot wounds to his back and right armpit. He was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Injuries from Multiple Shootings

  • 11:00 p.m.: A 37-year-old man was shot multiple times during a dispute in the 300-block of West Marquette Road. He is in critical condition at the University of Chicago Hospital.
  • 12:29 a.m.: In South Chicago, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the right leg while walking. He is expected to recover.
  • 1:00 a.m.: A 17-year-old was shot in the inner left thigh on the North Side. He self-transported to a local hospital and is expected to be fine.
  • 2:00 a.m.: A 36-year-old man sustained abdominal injuries in the 7300-block of South Stewart Avenue and is recovering.
  • 3:10 a.m.: A 31-year-old man was critically injured in the 6300-block of South Dorchester Avenue. He was shot in the back and is hospitalized in critical condition.
  • 3:00 a.m.: A 30-year-old man arrived at the University of Chicago Hospital with a graze wound to his right thigh and is expected to be OK.

Current Investigation Status

As of now, no suspects are in custody related to these incidents. Police continue to investigate the shootings, as the community calls for heightened safety measures.
