Deborah “Debbie” Jean (Gunderson) Mauel Obituary Announced

Deborah “Debbie” Jean Mauel, aged 65, passed away on December 23, 2025, at ThedaCare Hospital in New London, Wisconsin. Born on May 10, 1960, in Clintonville, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Geneva (Rose) Gunderson. Debbie was a lifelong resident of Clintonville and graduated with the class of 1978.

Family and Marriage

Debbie married Thomas F. Mauel at Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville on August 29, 1980. Together, they built a loving family.

Professional Life

  • Worked at Pine Manor and Mike’s Town & Country (now Marketplace Foods).
  • Was employed at Mathew’s Supper Club and later as a secretary at Schutt Industries.
  • Served as a dispatcher for over ten years at Kohel Interstate Transport.
  • Worked as a medical insurance claims specialist for UnitedHealthcare until retiring in May 2025.

Passions and Hobbies

Debbie was an enthusiastic pool player, participating in numerous leagues and tournaments. Notably, she and Tom once triumphed in three tournaments in a single day. She was also an accomplished cook, beloved for her favorite birthday dishes and holiday chocolate pie.

Gardening was a significant passion. She cultivated a large garden and enjoyed canning her produce. Her home was filled with thriving plants, reflecting her green thumb. Additionally, she cherished camping adventures, often choosing to sleep in a tent rather than a camper, and took pleasure in side-by-side rides, sometimes venturing up north to places like Three Lakes.

Family Engagement

Debbie was a dedicated grandmother, supporting her grandchildren in sports and school activities as their biggest cheerleader. She had a fondness for collectible angels, which adorned her home until her passing, giving her family a comforting essence of her presence.

Surviving Family

Debbie is survived by her husband, Tom, and her children:

  • Michael (Sam) Mauel of Clintonville
  • Craig (Christy) Mauel of St. Johns, FL
  • Bryan (Dannie) Mauel of Clintonville

She leaves behind grandchildren Cameron, Carter, Casen, Kaitlyn, Brittlee, Madelyn, and Albyn. Debbie is also survived by her siblings Diane (Wayne) Prey, Donna (Al) Meyer, Denise Gunderson, and Lisa (Mark) Stuhr, along with her beloved Rottweiler, Max.

Preceding Family

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda White, and brother Duaine Chapman.

Funeral Arrangements

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM on January 2, 2025, at Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 299 S. Main St., Clintonville, WI 54929. Rev. Diana Ziegler will officiate the service. A visitation will occur at the funeral home from 9 AM until the service begins, with inurnment to follow at a later date.
