Jamie Wilson Appointed as Manitoba Hydro Chairperson

Jamie Wilson has officially been appointed as the chairperson of the Manitoba Hydro board of directors. This decision comes from the New Democratic Party (NDP) government.
Background of Jamie Wilson
Jamie Wilson previously served as the Manitoba treaty commissioner. He also held the role of deputy minister during the Progressive Conservative government’s tenure under Brian Pallister. Wilson succeeded Ben Graham, who resigned from the position last week.
Prior to being appointed chair, Wilson was the vice-chair of Manitoba Hydro’s board. He is currently the vice president of Red River College Polytechnic, enhancing his leadership credentials.
Challenges Facing Manitoba Hydro
As Wilson takes on his new role, Manitoba Hydro faces significant financial pressures. The Crown corporation is grappling with:
- $25 billion in debt
- Drought-induced financial deficits
- $35 billion required for infrastructure upgrades
- Additional billions needed to enhance generating capacity
Wilson’s leadership will be crucial in navigating these challenges and securing the future of Manitoba Hydro. His prior experience positions him well to address the complexities faced by the organization during these turbulent times.
