MacKenzie Scott Donates to Connors State, Expanding Oklahoma School Aid

MacKenzie Scott has made headlines with her significant donations to educational institutions across Oklahoma. Her recent gift to Connors State College reflects her commitment to enhancing education in the region.

MacKenzie Scott’s $15 Million Donation to Connors State

On December 10, 2023, Connors State College in Warner announced it received a $15 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. This is the single largest donation in the college’s history. Established in 1909, Connors State serves around 2,000 students and is recognized for its strong agricultural programs.

Scott, former spouse of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has been actively supporting higher education in Oklahoma. This donation will bolster Connors State’s mission of “Building Futures One at a Time,” according to President Ron Ramming. He emphasized that the funds will create positive, lasting impacts by improving facilities and educational opportunities.

Recent Contributions to Oklahoma’s Higher Education

Since November 21, 2023, Scott has donated a total of $149 million to various colleges in Oklahoma.

  • $17 million to Northern Oklahoma College
  • $17 million to Northeastern State University
  • $8 million to College of the Muscogee Nation
  • $17 million to Seminole State College
  • $16 million to Eastern Oklahoma State College
  • $17 million to East Central University
  • $23 million to Carl Albert State College
  • $19 million to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College

All but two of these institutions are two-year colleges. These contributions form part of Scott’s broader strategy to redistribute her wealth, which Bloomberg estimates at about $40 billion.

Impact on Oklahoma Higher Education

Oklahoma higher education Chancellor Sean Burrage expressed gratitude for Scott’s generous gifts, noting their importance for the state’s educational institutions and the communities they serve. He believes this funding will benefit generations of Oklahomans.

In addition to the educational institutions mentioned, Scott’s foundation, Yield Giving, has committed funds to technical colleges, including an $11 million donation to Oklahoma Technical College.

Scott’s philanthropic efforts continue to reshape the landscape of education in Oklahoma, reinforcing the critical role these institutions play in student development and regional workforce growth.
