Pilgrims Flock to the Basilica of Guadalupe

Pilgrims have begun to gather at the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City as part of an annual tradition honoring the Virgin of Guadalupe. This pilgrimage is not just a journey; it embodies faith and the quest for divine connection.

Annual Pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe

Each year on December 12, thousands of devout worshippers visit the Basilica to commemorate the anniversary of the Virgin’s appearance, first reported in 1531. Among the participants are residents from Manzanillo Pinabeto, a small town in Rayón, Chiapas.

Journey of Faith

The pilgrims typically start their journey days ahead of the main celebration. As they travel, they join forces with other groups from various states, including:

  • Tabasco
  • Oaxaca
  • Morelos
  • Puebla
  • Veracruz
  • Tlaxcala

This unity is fueled by their shared faith and gratitude to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Many believe she has performed miracles in their lives. One renowned testimony comes from Gilberto Jiménez, who credits her intercession with saving his life after a serious accident.

Miracles and Gratitude

Gilberto, a construction worker, fell from a significant height, suffering grave injuries. He attributes his survival to the prayers of his community and the Virgin’s divine intervention. For the past four years, he has joined a group of around 50 pilgrims from his town to express their thanks.

“The Virgin is always with us, never abandoning us,” Gilberto said. “Today, we want to sing ‘Las Mañanitas’ in her honor for protecting us.”

Celebrating at the Basilica

Upon arrival, pilgrims from Manzanillo Pinabeto gather beside the main altar. They raise their voices in song, celebrating the Virgin of Guadalupe and sharing their blessings with fellow worshippers.

The Basilica of Guadalupe remains a powerful symbol of faith, hosting millions of pilgrims each year who seek solace, miracles, and a deeper connection to the divine.
