South East Water Main Burst Triggers Water Shortages

Residents faced significant disruptions due to a main water burst in the South East region. This incident has resulted in widespread water shortages, prompting immediate responses from local authorities and schools.
Bottled Water Distribution Points
To address the shortages, bottled water stations have been established at key locations. These include:
- Matfield Village Hall
- Tesco Superstore in Pembury
Both stations will remain operational until 21:00 BST. A spokesperson for South East Water mentioned, “We anticipate that supplies will be returned before then.”
Support for Vulnerable Residents
South East Water is also coordinating deliveries of bottled water to vulnerable customers. This effort aims to ensure that those most affected have access to essential water supplies during the crisis.
School Closures
The water main burst has led to the closure of local schools due to safety concerns. Notably, Lamberhurst St Mary’s Church of England VC Primary School announced its closure because it lacked access to hot water. The school stated, “As a result of these issues, it is not safe for us to remain open.” Pembury Primary School has also closed its doors until the situation improves.
Residents are urged to stay informed about the latest updates from South East Water and local authorities as they work to resolve the water shortage situation.
