Kartik Tyagi Returns Stronger, Rediscovering Self-Belief After Lost Years

Kartik Tyagi, once hailed as a promising young bowler, is making a notable comeback in the cricketing world. After facing a challenging few years marred by injuries, he is rediscovering his self-belief as he prepares for the upcoming IPL season with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Kartik Tyagi’s Early Career
Tyagi made his first-class debut at the young age of 16. He gained significant attention during the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, where he was India’s leading bowler. In the IPL 2020 season, he achieved remarkable success with the Rajasthan Royals, emerging as their most effective fast bowler after Jofra Archer.
Challenges Faced
Despite a promising start, Tyagi’s career faced several setbacks. Between 2021 and 2025, he played only a handful of matches: four in 2021, two in 2022, three in 2023, just one in 2024, and missed the entire 2025 season. His first-class appearances total just four, alongside 20 List A games and 37 T20 matches.
Overcoming Injuries
Tyagi attributed his struggles to a series of injuries, particularly shin splints that plagued him during his runs. “After regaining fitness and returning to play, I would often get injured again,” he mentioned. Seeking help from Ashish Kaushik, a former Indian physiotherapist, he modified his running mechanics to combat his ongoing issues.
Return to Form
After years of frustration, Tyagi has recently played consistently across all domestic formats for Uttar Pradesh. His strong performances during the UPT20 league, where he took 18 wickets in 11 matches, signaled his return to form. “I knew excelling in the UP league was essential for my comeback,” he stated.
New Opportunities with KKR
Kartik Tyagi was picked up by KKR in the IPL 2025 auction for INR 30 lakh. His team captain in the UP T20 League, Rinku Singh, helped him integrate into the KKR squad, especially as KKR faces a depleted fast-bowling lineup due to injuries to Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, and Mustafizur Rahman.
Embracing the Future
Tyagi is determined to focus on the present without being weighed down by the past. “I aim to concentrate on my process and what I can do for the team right now,” he emphasized. His previous injuries have taught him valuable lessons about resilience and maintaining a positive mindset.
Conclusion
As he steps into this new chapter, Kartik Tyagi looks to combine his raw talent with the experience he has gained over the years. His return symbolizes hope not just for him, but for aspiring cricketers who face similar challenges. With renewed self-belief and techniques refined under the guidance of former players, he is set to make an impact in the upcoming IPL season.
