Ex-Turnstile Guitarist Charged with Attempted Murder of Singer’s Father

A former member of the Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile, Brady Ebert, faces serious legal charges after allegedly attacking the lead singer’s father. This incident raises concerns about escalating tensions following his departure from the band.
Details of the Incident
Brady Ebert, 33, from Silver Spring, Maryland, was arrested on Wednesday and is charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault. The Montgomery County District Court has ordered that he be held without bond.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 29 at a residence on Timberlake Drive in Silver Spring. William Yates, aged 79, was found in the front yard with severe injuries to his legs. He is the father of Brendan Yates, the lead singer of Turnstile.
Allegations Against Ebert
According to police reports, William Yates informed authorities that Ebert had been harassing his family since his dismissal from the band in 2022. Family members stated Ebert had driven to their home, honked his horn, and yelled obscenities. Following this, he allegedly struck William Yates with his car.
- William Yates warned a family member about approaching traffic before the incident.
- Surveillance footage captured Ebert swerving towards Yates as he tried to avoid being hit.
- Yates reportedly had a history of confrontations with Ebert, who had engaged in aggressive behavior towards him.
Previous Incidents
Police documented that on March 13, Ebert had previously attempted to intimidate William Yates by driving aggressively near him. Following the latest incident, Yates stated that Ebert yelled at him while he lay injured, claiming he “deserved it.”
Turnstile and Ebert’s Career
Turnstile, known for their impactful contributions to the hardcore music scene, formed in 2010. They gained significant recognition with their 2021 album “Glow On,” and their subsequent record “Never Enough,” released in June 2025, earned them their first Grammy nominations.
Ebert was part of the band during these pivotal years but was dismissed in 2022. He later formed a new band, The S.E.T., which faced challenges and ultimately led to his departure before their EP release.
The situation remains fluid as Ebert awaits a bail review hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. at the District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County. Updates on this unfolding story will be provided as more information becomes available.
