Breeze Airways Modifies Utah Flights Due to Government Shutdown

As the federal government shutdown continues to affect air travel across the United States, Breeze Airways, based in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, is adjusting its flight schedule to minimize traveler inconvenience. The airline operates flights from Provo and Ogden airports, and has decided to scale back certain routes during this challenging period.

Breeze Airways Responds to Government Shutdown

According to Lukas Johnson, Breeze’s Chief Commercial Officer, the airline prioritized minimizing disruptions for its guests. The decision to reduce flights adhered to the federal guidelines and took into account the need to accommodate travelers on alternative flights.

Flight Reductions and Impact

Breeze Airways aims to limit operational disruptions during the reduction period, which extends through November 14. The airline confirmed that it would scale back a total of 32 round-trip flights over the next eight days, although only two flights were canceled immediately on Friday.

  • Two round-trip flights canceled on Friday.
  • A total of 32 round-trip flights expected to be canceled across the system.

Anticipated Effects on Travelers

Despite the reductions, Breeze anticipates some secondary impacts from travelers seeking new flights after experiencing disruptions with other airlines at major airports. Johnson noted an increase in demand for Breeze’s non-stop services, particularly from smaller, less congested airports.

“Guests appreciate the convenience of non-stop flights, especially in times of disruption,” Johnson said.

Advice for Travelers

Johnson encouraged travelers to allow extra time for security and air traffic control, acknowledging that TSA and ATC personnel are currently working without pay. He urged passengers to consider flying from regional airports like Provo and Ogden to avoid potential delays at larger hubs.

Future Flight Plans

Looking ahead, Breeze Airways plans to expand its services by adding flights from Provo to Las Vegas and Burbank in the coming months. The airline remains committed to providing reliable travel options while navigating the challenges posed by the government shutdown.

As the situation develops, Breeze Airways continues to focus on putting guests first, ensuring that they are accommodated and well-informed during their travel experience.
