Raiders Advance to State Championship Game Again

In an impressive display of teamwork, the Raiders have advanced to the state championship game, thanks to standout performances from several senior athletes. Lorenzo Arce contributed significantly with five receptions for 42 yards and executed a two-point conversion. Coach Heiderich noted the breakout performance of Hunter Bell, who excelled in his first outing as tailback. Bell recorded three carries for 21 yards and scored a touchdown, in addition to four catches for 70 yards and another touchdown.
Defensive Excellence
The Raiders’ defense was instrumental in securing a victory by maintaining a score of zero for their opponents. Senior linebacker Whitehead led the team with 11 total tackles, notably nine of which were solo. Other significant defensive contributions included:
- Webb: 7 total tackles (5 solo)
- Bell: 6 solo tackles, including one for a loss
- Grant Applewhite: recovery of two fumbles
- Ethan Hatch: interception
Emotional Reflection
Reflecting on his last game at Pillow Field, Webb expressed gratitude for his time spent with teammates. He emphasized the importance of staying focused as they prepare for the upcoming state championship. “I’m just trying to keep my mind focused, knowing that next week is crucial,” he stated.
Aiming for Improvement
As the Raiders prepare for a rematch against Brunswick Academy, both Webb and Coach Heiderich have acknowledged the need for improvement. Webb observed that the previous encounter on October 24 was closer than it should have been, attributing this to lost focus and missed opportunities. Heiderich echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need to minimize big plays and mental errors on both offense and defense.
“Our job’s not done,” Heiderich remarked, underscoring the team’s ambition as they look forward to the state championship. He aims to keep players focused on their goals while enjoying the journey along the way. With the right mindset, the Raiders are poised to make their mark in the upcoming title game.
