Weekend Forecast: Rain to Hit England, Wales, and Scotland

The UK is gearing up for a weekend marked by varying weather conditions, with rain forecasted across England, Wales, and Scotland. Cold northerly winds will contribute to low temperatures, particularly in northern regions and parts of Wales.
Weekend Weather Overview
According to the Met Office, Saturday will be relatively dry but will start with a noticeable chill. The day may see some light showers, especially in western areas. Despite the cool start, temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 15 to 16°C.
Sunday’s Heavy Rain
Rainfall will intensify on Sunday, with heavy downpours expected, particularly in the South West of England. Southern regions will experience light winds, but cooler temperatures will persist, ranging from 11 to 12°C. Showers will continue overnight into Sunday morning.
Looking Ahead: A Temperature Increase
In contrast to the chilly weekend, next week brings promising weather improvements. Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth has indicated that temperatures may rise closer to the average for May. She noted that by the end of the week, some areas could experience temperatures in the low 20s.
- By Thursday, temperatures may exceed 20°C in southern regions.
- South East could see mid-20s by the bank holiday weekend.
Long-Range Forecast Insights
The Met Office’s long-range forecast, covering May 18 to 27, suggests initially variable weather with rain showers. However, as high pressure builds from the south, more settled conditions may emerge.
This period could see temperatures stabilizing near normal, with the possibility of warmth returning towards the end of May. Expect stronger winds initially, transitioning to lighter breezes as conditions become more settled.
