Firefighters Rescue Toddler from Ottawa River; Hospitalized in Critical Condition

A two-year-old child was rescued from the Ottawa River and is currently hospitalized in critical condition. This occurred following a coordinated effort by Gatineau Fire Services and Ottawa Paramedics near the Remic Rapids.
Timeline of the Rescue Operation
The emergency response began just before 7 p.m. on a Friday evening. Ottawa Paramedics received a call for assistance as the rescue unfolded along the river.
Search Efforts
Multiple resources were mobilized in the search for the toddler. These included:
- A drone and an airplane for aerial surveillance
- Boats operated by both Gatineau and Ottawa fire departments
- Police officers patrolling the riverbanks
After extensive searching, the airplane located the child. First responders promptly pulled the toddler from the water and initiated resuscitation efforts.
Current Condition
The child was transported to a hospital where they remain in critical condition. Ottawa police have issued a public request to avoid a section of the Kichi Zībī Mīkan due to the ongoing water rescue operation.
