P. Diddy Seeks Overturn of 4-Year Prison Sentence at Appeals Court

In a significant legal development, Sean Combs, known professionally as P. Diddy, is seeking to overturn his four-year prison sentence. His legal team presented their case to a Manhattan appeals court in New York on Thursday.

P. Diddy’s Legal Battle

P. Diddy, aged 56, was sentenced in October for sex-related crimes following a highly publicized trial. The charges included sexual violence against former partners, notably singer Cassie Ventura, during what has been described as sexual marathons.

  • Charges: While Combs faced severe allegations of sex trafficking, the jury acquitted him of those charges.
  • Sentencing: He received a four-year and two-month prison sentence for facilitating prostitution.

Arguments in Court

During Thursday’s hearing, P. Diddy’s attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, argued that the sentence was excessively harsh. She asserted that the evidence used by Federal Judge Arun Subramanian to impose the sentence included threats against Ventura and another woman, which Combs had been acquitted of.

Shapiro insisted that the judge’s reliance on this evidence was inappropriate. Meanwhile, prosecutor Christy Slavik countered by stating that the incidents were directly linked to the transportation of individuals for prostitution.

As an example, she referenced a situation where Combs allegedly used explicit videos of Cassie Ventura to ensure her involvement in another sexual event. She analogized the evidence to slices of a pizza, suggesting that specific pieces were crucial in determining the severity of his sentence.

Awaiting the Decision

The appeals court did not reach a decision immediately. Judge William Nardini described the case as “exceptionally difficult.” P. Diddy’s release is currently scheduled for the spring of 2028.

In addition to contesting his sentence, Combs has appealed his conviction as well, but this matter was not extensively discussed during the recent hearing.
