Invincible Showrunners Reveal Major Season 4 Tech Jacket Update

The animated series “Invincible” on Prime Video continues to expand its universe with innovative character representations. Season 4 introduces a notable update to the character Tech Jacket, previously known as Zack Thompson. The show’s co-showrunners, Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa, made a significant change by gender-swapping Tech Jacket from a teenage boy to a teenage girl, named Zoe Thompson, voiced by Zoey Deutch.

Character Transformation in Season 4

Tech Jacket was originally introduced in a self-titled comic in 2001, which Kirkman co-created with artist E. J. Su. The character plays a pivotal role in the Invincible universe, particularly during the conflict between the Gelderians and Kresh aliens. This storyline adds depth to the broader narrative in the series.

Reasons Behind the Gender Swap

Kirkman explained the rationale behind this change, stating that the original character was too similar to Invincible himself. By transforming Zack into Zoe, the creators aimed to provide a fresh perspective and new attributes for Tech Jacket. “We thought it would be interesting to gender swap this character,” Kirkman noted.

  • Original character: Zack Thompson
  • New character: Zoe Thompson
  • Voice actor: Zoey Deutch
  • First appearance: Tech Jacket’s comic debut in 2001
  • Conflict background: Gelderians vs. Kresh aliens

Expanding the Invincible Universe

Tech Jacket’s evolution reflects the ongoing growth of the Invincible storyline. By incorporating new character dynamics, Kirkman and Racioppa enrich the narrative while celebrating traditional superhero themes. Season 4 promises to deliver more engaging content, retaining the essence of beloved comic book elements while introducing modern twists.
