P.E.I. Schools Close Wednesday Due to Wintry Weather Disrupting Travel

Schools across Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) are temporarily closed on Wednesday due to severe winter weather affecting travel across the province. Heavy snowfall and freezing rain have created hazardous conditions that prompted the cancellations.
Weather Warnings Across P.E.I.
A snowfall warning has been issued for Prince County, where accumulations of 10 to 20 centimeters of snow are anticipated. This weather event is expected to taper off late Wednesday morning.
Additionally, a freezing rain warning is in effect for Queens and Kings counties. Freezing rain is predicted to last for four to eight hours, concluding around noon. Environment Canada cautions residents to prepare for icy and slippery conditions on roads and walkways.
School and Program Closures
- All schools in P.E.I.’s English and French school boards are closed.
- Island Montessori Academy centers in Stratford and Cornwall are also closed.
- The CSP Day Program will not operate today.
Delays in Educational Institutions
- University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) will delay opening its campuses in Charlottetown and St. Peter’s Bay until noon.
- Holland College is also delaying the opening of all its locations until noon.
- The AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital remains open for emergencies.
Government and Community Services Update
- All provincial civil service offices will have a delayed opening until 10:30 a.m.
- Charlottetown City Hall will also see a delayed opening until 10:30 a.m.
- T3 Transit advises that rural buses may experience delays based on road conditions.
- Simmons Sports Centre and Cody Banks Arena will open later at 10:30 a.m.
