IPL 2026: Revamped RR and CSK Set for 3rd Match Revival

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is gearing up for an exciting season with revamped squads for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). After finishing at the bottom in IPL 2025, both teams have made significant changes to their rosters.

Notable Changes in Teams

Sanju Samson has transitioned to CSK from RR, while Ravindra Jadeja swaps sides in a key trade. Riyan Parag will lead RR as their captain, replacing the outgoing Samson. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who missed much of the previous season due to injury, resumes the captaincy at CSK, taking over from MS Dhoni. Dhoni is expected to be sidelined for the first two weeks due to a calf injury.

Injuries Impacting Teams

  • Dewald Brevis from CSK is out for the opening match due to injury.
  • Sam Curran is ruled out for the entire season.

The teams’ rosters have also seen other key players departing, impacting their strategies. RR’s head coach, Stephen Fleming, confirmed that overseas spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana are no longer with the team. To fix balance issues, RR traded Jadeja and acquired Ravi Bishnoi during the auction. Additionally, they boast pace options with Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, and Adam Milne.

Bowling Line-Up Challenges

CSK’s bowling attack currently lacks balance. Nathan Ellis’s injury has forced the team to sign Spencer Johnson, who is recovering from his own injury. While Matt Henry is a promising player for New Zealand, he may not be a first-choice option in other IPL teams. CSK has various choices, including Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed, Zak Foulkes, and Akeal Hosein, but they primarily excel in powerplay overs.

Noor Ahmad, the top wicket-taker among spinners last season, can manage middle overs, but questions loom over CSK’s death bowling capabilities.
