Easter Travel Surge in Europe as Tourists Pursue Budget-Friendly Destinations

As Easter approaches, Europe is witnessing a notable surge in travel demand, particularly for budget-friendly destinations. New data from PriceLabs highlights that booked nights have risen in 18 out of 22 popular destinations compared to last year.
Easter Travel Demand Trends in Europe
The analysis reveals that Eastern and Southern European cities are experiencing the strongest growth. Both Krakow and Athens have seen a remarkable 51% increase in demand. Budapest follows closely, with a 50% boost in booked nights.
Growth in Popular Destinations
- Krakow: +51%
- Athens: +51%
- Budapest: +50%
- Málaga: +43%
- Dublin: +43%
However, not all destinations are benefiting from this trend. Some cities have reported a decline in bookings, including Brittany (-26%), Bordeaux (-6%), and Paris (-6%). PriceLabs notes that later school holidays in certain French regions might be influencing these domestic travel trends.
Average Daily Rates Increase
The average daily rates across the analyzed markets have risen, with notable increases observed in several cities. Prague leads with a 27% hike, followed by Paris at 24%, and Budapest at 21%.
Most Expensive and Affordable Destinations
| City | Average Nightly Rate (€) |

| Athens | 115 |
| Brittany | 107 |

While capital cities remain the most expensive options, Eastern European cities such as Krakow and Budapest are becoming increasingly attractive for cost-conscious travelers.
Changing Travel Behaviors
Richie Khandelwal, founder of PriceLabs, commented that travelers are broadening their searches beyond traditional capitals due to rising costs. This shift indicates a strong ongoing demand for peak travel periods, where pricing and choice of destination significantly influence booking behavior.
