Darren Byfield’s Managerial Background

Before taking the reins at Walsall, Byfield accumulated managerial experience in non-league football. He served as the manager for several clubs, including:

He also had a brief spell as the interim manager of Crawley Town in League Two. His coaching journey with Walsall began in July 2023, when he joined the staff.

Byfield’s relationship with Walsall is rooted deeply in his footballing career. He began with the club in 2000 after transferring from Aston Villa. Notably, he scored the winning goal in the League Two play-off final against Reading, securing a thrilling 3-2 victory in Cardiff.

After a stint at Rotherham, he returned to Walsall in August 2009 and contributed significantly with 12 goals across 56 appearances. Byfield expressed his dedication to the club, stating:

“This is Walsall, a club that means an awful lot to me – this is my football club.”
