He noted, “This is Brad’s 16th year in the UFC, so he’s been here for the entire existence of the anti-doping program.”
Tavares’ clean test results are remarkable. Over nearly 4,000 days, he has managed to stay clean, which means he is accountable for his whereabouts for testing. His biological samples are analyzed in a lab capable of detecting minute quantities, equivalent to detecting a pinch of salt in an Olympic swimming pool.

Reflecting on the journey, Tavares mentioned his initial surprise at the frequency of testing. “In the beginning, they would show up to my house every week, and I thought, ‘Is this what life is going to be like?’” he said. This was due to his consistent levels, which warranted fewer tests as assessed by the testing authorities.

As Tavares celebrates this achievement, he is also on the verge of breaking a record. He is currently tied with Michael Bisping, holding 16 victories in UFC middleweight history.
