Snowfall Predicted Across Southwestern B.C., Including Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island

Environment Canada has issued an expanded special weather statement for low-elevation snowfall across southwestern British Columbia. The affected areas include Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island.

Snowfall Predictions for Southwestern B.C.

The weather service predicts that regions near sea level could receive up to four centimetres of snow. This warning encompasses several areas:

  • Sunshine Coast
  • Howe Sound
  • Fraser Valley
  • Greater Vancouver

Inland parts of North Vancouver Island are expected to see even more snow, with totals possibly reaching 10 centimetres.

Higher Elevation Warnings

Higher elevations will experience significant snowfall as well. Notably, the Sea to Sky Highway, linking Squamish and Whistler, could see accumulations of up to 15 centimetres by the end of Tuesday.

Coquihalla Highway Conditions

The Coquihalla Highway remains under a snowfall warning, anticipating up to 30 centimetres of snow. This highway faced backups over the weekend due to weather-related incidents.

Drivers Advised to Exercise Caution

Environment Canada attributes the winter conditions to a cold and unstable air mass. Drivers in affected areas are advised to prepare for challenging road conditions.
