Fido Unveils 5G Plans Offering Speeds Up to 1 Gbps

Fido has officially launched its new 5G wireless plans, offering customers impressive speeds of up to 1 Gbps. This rollout is significant for customers looking for faster mobile internet and improved connectivity.

Details of Fido’s 5G Plans

The new 5G plans come with various data options and competitive pricing, which includes:

  • $35 for 20GB
  • $40 for 80GB (previously 60GB)
  • $49 for 80GB (previously 60GB)
  • $55 for 100GB (Canada, US, and Mexico)

Each plan features autopay discounts and additional data bonuses ranging from 10 to 20GB.

Upgrading to 5G

Fido’s President of Wireless, Anne Martin‑Vachon, expressed the company’s commitment to delivering reliable 5G access to customers without additional costs. Existing 4G customers will automatically receive a free upgrade to 5G by March 18, while new customers can access 5G services immediately. However, it is essential to note that basic plans and Wireless Home Phone services will not include 5G access.

Enhanced Coverage and Competitiveness

Fido plans to update its coverage maps to reflect the expanded 5G services soon. The company emphasizes that its 5G speeds exceed those offered by competitors such as Koodo, which provides up to 250 Mbps, and Virgin Plus, with speeds reaching up to 150 Mbps.

While many customers may appreciate the enhanced speeds, some industry observers suggest that there might be a demand for bundled international roaming options, a feature offered by other providers like Freedom Mobile.

By focusing on simplifying wireless service, Fido aims to make high-speed internet accessible to more Canadians. This transition to 5G signifies a crucial step in enhancing mobile connectivity across the nation.
