Chloe Lewis Urges Legal Reform After Son’s Finger Severed in Accident

Chloe Lewis, a former star of “The Only Way Is Essex” (TOWIE), is advocating for legal reform following a distressing accident involving her son. On New Year’s Eve, her six-year-old son Beau sustained severe injuries when he fell while ice skating and had his finger run over by another skater. The injury led to emergency surgery, but doctors were unable to reattach the severed finger.

Campaign for Mandatory Glove Wearing

In response to this incident, Chloe Lewis is calling on the UK government to implement a law that requires children to wear protective gloves while ice skating. Speaking on “Good Morning Britain,” she expressed her desire to prevent other families from experiencing similar trauma. “I don’t want to see any other parent go through what I went through,” she stated.

Changes by Planet Ice

As a result of the incident, Planet Ice, the UK’s largest ice rink operator, announced a new policy. Starting June 1, all children under 12 will be required to wear gloves at their rinks. Although the accident did not occur at a Planet Ice venue, the company is taking proactive steps to enhance safety.

  • Policy Start Date: June 1
  • Age Requirement: Children under 12

Chloe is now gathering signatures for her petition aimed at compelling the government to make glove-wearing mandatory across all ice skating rinks. With a goal of reaching 100,000 signatures, she hopes the petition will prompt a parliamentary debate on the issue.

Significance of the Campaign

Chloe believes that changing the law will not only help her son but will also ensure a safer environment for all children engaged in ice skating. She reflects on her personal experience and the need for improved safety measures to protect young skaters. “I can’t bring back your finger, but I want to make it better for other children,” she added during her interview.

As of now, petitions in the UK that garner over 10,000 signatures receive a government response, while those that reach 100,000 signatures are potentially considered for debate in Parliament.

Chloe has shared her story to raise awareness and hopes that by promoting this change, she can protect other families from similar tragedies.
