Senators Acquire Warren Foegele from Kings in Trade

The Ottawa Senators have made a significant acquisition, adding forward Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings. This move aims to bolster the team’s wing depth as the Senators prepare for the rest of the season.

Trade Details

According to reports from Darren Dreger of TSN and Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia, the Senators will send a second-round pick to Los Angeles in exchange for Foegele. Additionally, a pick swap is part of this transaction, as stated by Frank Seravalli of Victory+.

Warren Foegele’s Performance

Warren Foegele, who will turn 30 next month, is a left winger known for his size and scoring potential. However, his performance this season has been disappointing, managing only seven goals and nine points in 47 games. He has recently found himself in the press box for five of the Kings’ last ten games after being a consistent player for both Los Angeles and Edmonton in previous seasons.

Career Statistics

  • Average: 16 goals and 32 points per 82 games over nine years.
  • Current season: 7 goals and 9 points in 47 games.

Despite his lackluster current season, Foegele has previously demonstrated the ability to perform well, having recorded back-to-back 20-goal seasons prior to this year.

Contract and Financial Aspects

Warren Foegele is in the second year of a three-year contract worth $10.5 million, with a $3.5 million cap hit. His deal includes a five-team no-trade list, which presumably did not include Ottawa. For the upcoming season, Foegele’s actual salary will be $3 million, making him a financially appealing option for the Senators.

Impact on the Senators

With David Perron nearing his return from sports hernia surgery, the Senators have faced challenges in scoring depth. Nick Cousins has needed to step into a third-line role but has outperformed Foegele this season. Given these circumstances, Foegele is expected to receive a better opportunity within Ottawa’s top-nine lineup.

This acquisition could provide the Senators with the necessary support to enhance their scoring capabilities as they navigate the remainder of the season.
