Toronto FC Signs U.S. Striker Josh Sargent as Designated Player

Toronto FC has officially secured U.S. striker Josh Sargent on a long-term deal from Norwich City FC, a club in the EFL Championship. The 26-year-old has been signed as a designated player, with his contract set to run until the end of the 2030-31 MLS season. This announcement was made by the club on Friday.
Transaction Details
To facilitate Sargent’s move, Toronto FC obtained his MLS rights from St. Louis City SC. This acquisition involved a transfer fee of $500,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM), which will be distributed evenly over 2026 and 2027. Additionally, there are performance-related conditions that could deepen the financial commitment by up to $225,000 in GAM.
The finalization of Sargent’s transfer is contingent upon him passing a medical examination, obtaining a work permit, and securing an International Transfer Certificate.
Player Background
Sargent has an impressive track record from his five seasons in England with Norwich City. He made his Premier League debut in August 2021 and has made 157 appearances across all competitions, contributing 56 goals and 15 assists.
