The service was held on a Friday afternoon at First Presbyterian Church, allowing many to pay their respects. Hunt passed away last week at the age of 88 on his family farm in Wilson.

Jim Hunt’s legacy is carried on by his wife, Carolyn, and their four children. His daughter, Rachel, holds the office of lieutenant governor, a role that Hunt himself once fulfilled from 1972 to 1976. Additionally, he is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
To honor his memory, Governor Josh Stein has encouraged the public to sign a book of condolences for Hunt’s family. This book is available at the North Carolina State Capitol’s rotunda until January 2.
