Michel Therrien Leads Canada’s Coaching Staff for Spengler Cup

The coaching staff for Canada’s team at the 2025 Spengler Cup has been announced. Former Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien will head the coaching lineup. He will be joined by Drew Bannister, Rob Cookson, and Patrice Lefebvre as assistant coaches. Jérémy Coupal will serve as the video coach.

The decisions regarding the coaching team were facilitated by general manager Marc Bergevin. He collaborated with associate general manager Stacy Roest to finalize these selections. Therrien is praised for his extensive experience in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Bergevin expressed confidence in Therrien’s leadership capabilities: “Michel’s extensive résumé as a head coach in the NHL will allow him to be a great leader for our team.” He also highlighted the diverse experience of the assistants, stating that they collectively bring years of expertise from the NHL, American Hockey League, Europe, and international competitions.

Spengler Cup Tournament Details
The 2025 Spengler Cup is set to feature top international clubs, with Canada paired against the U.S. Collegiate Selects and host team HC Davos in the preliminary rounds.
Canada will kick off its campaign against the U.S. Collegiate Selects on December 26. The tournament will culminate in the championship game, scheduled for December 31.
