Rockefeller Center Transforms into a Massive NBA Playground

Rockefeller Center has been transformed into an NBA-themed playground, named “30 Rocks,” in honor of the league’s return to NBC and debut on Peacock. This special event runs from October 16 to 21, featuring basketball activities, art displays, and fan engagement. A key highlight is an illuminated LED half-court where attendees can showcase their skills in front of NBC Studios.

Event Highlights and Features

At the heart of the activation are 30 unique basketball sculptures, creatively designed by local artists to represent each NBA team and its home city. After the event, these pieces will be distributed back to their original markets, extending the celebration nationwide.

  • October 16: Launch day featured a friendly competition among NBC News personalities in a game called “N-B-C.”
  • October 17: NBA legends such as John Starks, Ron Harper, Joakim Noah, and Jason Richardson will engage with fans and judge a dunk contest.
  • October 18: Focus on youth with Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA clinics and a Nike EYBL 3×3 tournament.
  • October 19: Trivia and family-friendly games take center stage.
  • October 20: NBA Jersey Day featuring giveaways and photo opportunities.
  • October 21: The event culminates with Michael Bublé making a special appearance, live broadcasts from the Today Show, and a countdown to the season’s first game between the Thunder and Rockets.

“30 Rocks is a unique opportunity to unite fans of all 30 NBA teams in New York City,” said Lyndsay Signor, NBCUniversal’s senior vice president of sports marketing. EB Kelly, head of Rockefeller Center, expressed excitement over welcoming NBA legends and fans to the venue. The event is free to the public and takes place daily at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
