Experts Report Sharp Rise in Anxiety Diagnoses Among Children and Youth

Recent reports reveal a significant increase in anxiety diagnoses among children and youth worldwide. Experts are raising alarms about this growing concern, labeling it a global crisis. Current statistics suggest that around 20 to 25 percent of young people face mental health challenges at any given moment.
Rising Statistics in Youth Anxiety

According to a 2024 report titled “Generation At Risk,” prepared in collaboration with Bell Let’s Talk, approximately 1.25 million Canadian youth aged 12 to 24 are struggling with mental health issues. A large-scale study conducted between 2014 and 2023 by Harvard University, alongside Boston University and the Boston Medical Center, surveyed two million youth. The findings indicate that by 2023, 15 percent of primary care visits for children were related to mental health needs. Notably, visits for anxiety have surged nearly 300 percent over the past decade, predominantly among female teens.
