Southend Pier Welcomes Back Popular Open-Air Bar and Disco

On the Decks, a popular open-air bar and disco, has returned to Southend Pier, attracting visitors with its vibrant atmosphere. The event kicked off today at noon and will run until 7 PM. It will also be held on Bank Holiday Monday from 1 PM to 7 PM. Patrons can enjoy incredible views of the Thames Estuary while sipping cocktails from the bar, which will remain open throughout the afternoon.

Experience the Joy of On the Decks

Families and friends are delighted to find that the event is the perfect addition to a day at the pier. Attendees can unwind in deck chairs or retreat to colorful beach huts, soaking up the sun and the joyous ambiance.

Customer Testimonials

  • David Joseph: Traveling from Havering, he expressed his excitement, saying, “We’ve come from Gidea Park to On The Decks at the end of Southend Pier, and it’s been brilliant. The atmosphere is fantastic with the live music and bar.” He highlighted that the train ride along the pier was a familial highlight.
  • Sally and Carmel: These visitors from Chelmsford called the event a “fabulous” way to wrap up their day. Sally remarked, “On the Decks is such a brilliant idea; we’re having a fabulous afternoon sitting in the deckchairs, listening to the music.” Carmel added, “We both love soul music, so we even had a little dance. We’ll definitely be coming back more over the summer.”

A Vision Realized

Launched last year with great success, On the Decks was developed by Southend Council in collaboration with local cultural voices. This initiative has transformed an underutilized part of the pier into a lively open-air disco, reviving the festive spirit that the pier was once known for.

Community Support

Matt Dent, a Labour councillor for business, culture, and tourism in Southend, commended the return of On the Decks. He stated, “It was one of the highlights of last summer on the Pier, and I’m delighted to bring it back for a second year. With the bank holiday weekend promising sunshine, it’s a fantastic opportunity for residents to head down to the Pier, have a drink, dance, and enjoy everything the Estuary has to offer.”

On the Decks not only promises music and dancing but also reconnects families and friends with the joy of communal entertainment, making Southend Pier a must-visit destination this summer.
