London Pensioner’s £30,000 Watch Stolen: Thief Sentenced to Jail

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced for stealing a valuable watch from a pensioner in central London. The incident occurred in April last year when Zakaria Senouci ambushed 73-year-old Sunil Chopra near Hyde Park.

Details of the Theft

Senouci targeted Chopra while he was walking along a pavement. The watch in question, a Patek Philippe valued at approximately £30,000, was forcefully taken from the victim’s wrist. This brazen act has drawn significant attention due to the watch’s high worth and the age of the victim.

Impact on the Victim

The attack left Sunil Chopra traumatized. The court was informed that Chopra was so disturbed by the robbery that he contemplated leaving the United Kingdom altogether.

Legal Proceedings

The case was brought before Southwark Crown Court, where District Judge Mark Weekes delivered the sentencing. Senouci received a prison term of three years and nine months for his actions.

Judge’s Remarks

During the sentencing, Judge Weekes emphasized that Senouci’s involvement in the crime was voluntary. He described the act as part of an “opportunistic plan” to commit theft.

Regret and Reflection

In court, Senouci expressed remorse through his defense counsel, acknowledging the harm his actions caused to Chopra.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of street crime in urban areas and raises concerns about the safety of vulnerable citizens.
