Strictly Contestant with Cancer Suggests Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” as Theme Song

Kalli Spencer, a contestant in the upcoming Strictly Inverness dance competition, is facing her battle with stage four breast cancer with remarkable positivity. At just 30 years old, she is a mother of two, living in Forres with her husband, Liam, who serves in the Army, and their children, Coben (9) and Niah (6).

Background on Kalli Spencer

Kalli hails from Boat of Garten, where she first discovered a lump in her breast three years ago. Having a family history of breast cancer made her vigilant about checking for lumps. Despite her concerns, she was initially referred to a breast clinic as a non-urgent case. Unfortunately, the lump progressed, resulting in a diagnosis of stage three cancer, which later advanced to stage four.

Healthcare Journey

Spencer underwent a mastectomy and had 41 lymph nodes removed. Due to complications, she experienced delays in her chemotherapy treatment, leading to a later diagnosis of stage four cancer. Now, despite her challenging situation, she is currently stable, thanks to ongoing treatment with modern medical therapies.

Life with Cancer

Kalli openly acknowledges the severity of her illness. She faces the reality that she may not live to see her children become teenagers, expressing her concerns candidly. However, she emphasizes the importance of humor and experience in her family’s journey, stating, “Any days you get are an absolute bonus.”

Family Experiences and Support

Kalli has prioritized family experiences, including vacations and activities that create lasting memories. Her positive outlook continues as she participates in fundraising endeavors for Highland Hospice, which played a significant role in providing her with emotional and physical support.

Strictly Inverness Dance Competition

The Strictly Inverness dance competition, which raises funds for Highland Hospice and the Inverness Ice Centre, will take place from May 13 to 16. Kalli will be performing the cha-cha with her dance partner, Pat Connelly. The event marks its 15th anniversary and has raised nearly £3 million since it began. Anton Du Beke from Strictly Come Dancing will join as a guest judge.

Fundraising Efforts

  • Kalli is organizing a sponsored dog walk on April 26, starting at 11 am.
  • Participants can join a strawberry tea event at Nethy Village Hall at 1:30 pm.
  • A JustGiving page has been established for additional donations.

Those interested in supporting Kalli can contact her via email for sponsorship forms and further details.

In her own words, Kalli believes that the theme song for her journey should be the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive,” capturing her determination to make the most of her life despite the challenges she faces.
