Denny graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School in 1960, where he excelled in sports, particularly in baseball and basketball. After high school, he attended Mankato State University and later served in the National Guard, contributing to his community.

His career began with a brief stint at McQuay’s International. Denny then dedicated many years to selling insurance, primarily with American Family Insurance. Afterward, he transitioned to Control Data and worked for Grist Mill/Con Agra for over 15 years before retiring.
Post-retirement, Denny remained active in the local workforce, taking on roles with several businesses, including years at HyVee Liquor and his final position at Kwik Trip.
Personal Life
Denny married Marcia Wilkowske on October 19, 1963. The couple enjoyed a loving partnership until her passing on April 13, 2019. Together, they raised four children: Scott, Todd (Laura), Leslie, and Brent Sterling.
Legacy and Interests
A sports enthusiast, Denny spent many years coaching basketball at CCS and football at Bethlehem Academy. He also coached his children in their youth sports pursuits. Additionally, he enjoyed umpiring various levels of baseball and fastpitch.
Denny had a passion for NASCAR racing and frequently traveled to watch races with his sons, further illustrating his dedication to both family and sports.

Denny is preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; his parents, Harlo and Irene; and his granddaughter, Abby Sterling. Visitation will take place at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on February 4, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects and celebrate Denny’s life.
