Acura has announced the phase-out of the RDX, its popular luxury SUV, starting in the spring of 2026. This marks a significant transition in the brand’s offerings as it prepares for the introduction of a new hybrid-electric model. The upcoming fourth-generation RDX will be equipped with a two-motor hybrid-electric system, representing the first for Acura.
Details on the RDX Production Timeline
The current model of the RDX will cease production this spring. However, Acura expects to have ample inventory to support sales throughout much of the year. Current RDX owners will also have the option to extend their leases during this period.
Sales Projections and Growth Strategy
Despite phasing out the RDX, Lance Woelfer, American Honda’s vice president of sales, remains optimistic. He anticipates continued growth from other models, including the entry-level ADX and the three-row MDX. The anticipated launch of the electric RSX in the latter half of the year is also expected to help maintain customer interest within the Acura brand.

For 2026, Acura aims to sell approximately 135,000 vehicles. This is part of a broader projection of 1.5 million total vehicle sales for Honda and Acura, marking a 4 percent increase despite a flat industry outlook.
Focus on Affordable Models
In an effort to stimulate sales, Acura plans to emphasize lower trims to satisfy the demand for more affordable options. This strategy includes increasing production of budget-conscious versions of core models such as:
- Honda CR-V
- Honda Civic
- Honda Accord
- Acura’s entry ADX
- Acura Integra
Acura will also update models like the Integra Type S and the MDX in the coming year, in addition to launching the refreshed 2026 Honda Pilot.
Innovative Technology Developments
Exciting changes are on the horizon with the introduction of the Honda S+ Shift system. This feature, which simulates performance shifting, will be integrated into the Civic Hybrid later this year. The new Honda Prelude, launched in November, will gradually become available to dealerships by March, with sales already exceeding expectations.
