Police Pursuit Triggers Shelter-in-Place Order in West Fort Collins

A police pursuit in West Fort Collins led to a shelter-in-place order for local residents early on January 16. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. when officers from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations and suspected DUI.
Police Chase Details
Initially, the driver refused to comply and sped away from the deputies. The pursuit continued for several miles before deputies executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a halt on South Overland Trail.
Foot Pursuit and Arrests
After the crash, the driver and passengers exited the vehicle. While two suspects were detained at the crash site, two others fled into a nearby neighborhood. This prompted law enforcement agencies, including the Fort Collins Police Services and Colorado State University (CSU) Police, to establish a perimeter and initiate a search in the area.
Shelter-in-Place Alert Issued
At 2:30 a.m., a Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority (LETA) alert was dispatched to residents. The message advised them to secure their homes and stay indoors until further notice.
Suspects Apprehended
Law enforcement found the fleeing suspects hiding in a garage on Morgan Court in the Brown Farm neighborhood. Subsequently, three individuals from the original vehicle were arrested.
