Leafs’ Stolarz Nears Return After Nerve Issue Recovery

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is nearing his return after recovering from a nerve issue that has sidelined him. On Friday, during a media session at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Stolarz revealed he is feeling positive about his recovery, stating he needs “a couple more practices” before rejoining the team.
Stolarz’s Recent Performance and Recovery Timeline
Stolarz’s last appearance on the ice was on November 5 against the Utah Mammoth. Since then, he was pulled in two subsequent games against the Boston Bruins. In the 13 games played this season, he has a record of 6 wins, 5 losses, and 1 overtime loss, along with a save percentage of .884 and a goals-against average of 3.51.
Despite these less-than-ideal statistics, the Maple Leafs remain hopeful that he will regain the form he showcased last season. In 33 starts last year, Stolarz achieved an impressive record of 21 wins, 8 losses, and 3 overtime losses, with a league-best save percentage of .926 and a goals-against average of 2.14. His performance earned him a second-place vote for the prestigious Vezina Trophy.
Current Goaltender Situation
This season, the Leafs have utilized five different goaltenders. Joseph Woll has been the standout, currently holding an 11-4-3 record over 19 games. Meanwhile, Dennis Hildeby has served as the backup with a record of 4 wins, 6 losses, and 4 overtime losses, paired with a .911 save percentage.
- Cayden Primeau has also played but was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes.
- Artur Akhtyamov is set to represent the Toronto Marlies in the upcoming AHL All-Star Game.
Maple Leafs’ Current Standings
The Toronto Maple Leafs currently hold a record of 23 wins, 16 losses, and 8 overtime losses, accumulating 54 points. This positions them sixth in the Atlantic Division, just two points shy of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Looking ahead, Toronto will face the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday as they conclude their road trip. Following this matchup, they will begin a four-game home stand starting with the Minnesota Wild on Monday.
