Notre-Dame Restoration Needs Additional €140 Million After Devastating Fire

The restoration of the famed Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris requires an additional €140 million following a catastrophic fire. This announcement was made by the public establishment overseeing the restoration, known as Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris.
Current Funding Status
To date, over €840 million has been raised from generous donors. This support comes from approximately 340,000 contributors hailing from 150 countries. The public establishment expressed gratitude for the ongoing donations and praised the effective management of these funds.
Funding Shortfall
Despite the substantial amount already raised, Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris indicates that at least an equivalent of €140 million is still needed. This funding is crucial to expedite the completion of the restoration efforts.
Specific Restoration Needs
- Restoration of the sacristy, which has not undergone external repairs since its original construction.
- Renovation of the three grand rose windows of the cathedral.
- Repair work on the north and south façades of the transept.
- Renovations to the presbytery and the nave.
- Work needed on the back of the cathedral’s towers.
Visitor Numbers and Reopening
Notre-Dame Cathedral reopened on December 7, 2024, after five years of restoration work following the devastating fire. Since reopening, it has already attracted more than 11 million visitors, including prominent world leaders. The reopening event was notable, featuring international dignitaries, including former U.S. President Donald Trump.
As the restoration continues, the appeal for donations remains critical to ensure that the iconic landmark can be fully restored to its former glory.
