Request for Public Assistance
- Police are urging local residents and business owners to review their surveillance footage.
- They are particularly interested in any recordings captured between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.
Context of Gun Violence in London
This shooting marks at least the 22nd incident of gunfire in the city this year. Over the past six months, there have been several incidents where homes were shot at.
Recent Shooting Incidents
- In August, a suspect was apprehended for a shooting at a residence on Boullee Street.
- A separate incident involved a home on Foxridge Crescent, which was shot at 33 times.
- On October 15, police investigated two shooting incidents that occurred within 15 minutes at homes on Homestead Court and Huron Street.
Innisfil and Brampton authorities have also made arrests related to these ongoing investigations.
Addressing Gun Violence
Deteriorating gun violence has prompted city officials to express concern. During a September news conference, the police chief pointed to a “broken” criminal justice system. Calls for bail reform, a review of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and harsher penalties for violent offenders have intensified.
Last month, the federal government announced judicial reforms aimed at making bail more difficult to obtain, particularly for repeat and violent offenders.
