UTSA’s Impressive Start
UTSA began the season on a high note, defeating the College of Biblical Studies with a remarkable score of 97-30. This victory allowed the Roadrunners to establish new records, including the fewest opponent points allowed in UTSA history. The team demonstrated exceptional skill by shooting 50.6% from the field and winning the rebound battle 59-32.
The Roadrunners’ roster has transformed significantly with 11 newcomers joining the team this season. Notably, five players scored in double figures during the opener. Macaleab Rich led the scoring with 15 points, while Kaidon Rayfield secured a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
About the SIUE Cougars
The SIUE Cougars also opened their season strongly with a 119-50 victory over East West University. They returned seven players from last season’s NCAA Tournament team, highlighting 6-foot-9 junior Ring Malith, who averaged 11.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last year.
Despite losing key players, the Cougars will rely on their returning talent and new transfers to make an impact this season. Their strong performance in the opener showcased their offensive capabilities, shooting nearly 59% from the floor.
Looking Ahead
This Friday’s game is an essential early-season contest for both teams. The excitement of the White Out event and the high stakes of collegiate basketball are sure to draw a significant crowd to the Convocation Center. Following this game, UTSA will prepare for a road trip to face Texas State on November 12.
