Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the storm developed unexpectedly. Brittany Perez, who was with her family at a youth football game in Taft, sought refuge in a car wash but still faced damage. “Our whole back window was shattered,” she said. The storm also raised concerns as many reported dead birds likely struck by the hail.

At the Glades of Gregory apartment complex, Loren Salas documented the storm’s aftermath with photos of enormous hailstones. Some residents faced additional disturbances; a couple who had waited 16 years to wed were forced to relocate their celebration indoors to handle the damage.
Insurance Claims and Cleanup Efforts
Insurance agents have reported a significant influx of claims following the storm. State Farm agent Matt Sablatura, who experienced damage at his property on Country Club Lane, noted that most claims are expected to be filed quickly. He stated that videos and photos are essential for the claims process.
“Hail and water and glass everywhere,” Sablatura described his backyard devastation. Cleanup crews, including ServiceMaster, are working tirelessly throughout Portland as they tackle debris and repair efforts. Hector Garza from ServiceMaster remarked on the widespread devastation, citing numerous homes with damaged double-pane windows.

While the community is relieved that no serious injuries were reported, the cleanup is anticipated to span several weeks. Residents are increasingly aware of the storm’s impact, collecting documentation to aid in their recovery efforts.
