Mass Gov. Healey’s Aide Charged in Cocaine Trafficking Tied to State Office

An aide to Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has faced serious legal troubles due to allegations of cocaine trafficking. LaMar Cook, 45, was arrested after investigators intercepted drug shipments intended for a state office building where he was employed.

Details of the Arrest

Cook, who served as the deputy director of Healey’s Western Massachusetts office, was arraigned on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty. Following his arrest on Tuesday, the governor’s office terminated him “effectively immediately.”

Charges Against LaMar Cook

  • Cocaine trafficking
  • Illegal possession of a firearm
  • Illegal possession of ammunition

The prosecution has ordered Cook to be held without bail pending further hearings. A spokesperson from Healey’s office emphasized that the actions leading to Cook’s arrest represent a significant breach of public trust and stated that the administration would cooperate with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

Evidence Collected

According to the District Attorney’s office, authorities seized a total of 21 kilograms of cocaine. This included eight kilograms intercepted during a delivery operation at the Springfield State Office Building. Additionally, two prior drug seizures had occurred at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Prior Drug Seizures

  • October 10: 13 kilograms confiscated at Hotel UMass in Amherst

Cook had previously worked as the director of Hotel UMass, as noted on his LinkedIn profile. Evidence suggests that the narcotics found during the recent seizure were related to the earlier operation in Amherst.

Investigative efforts continue as authorities examine potential additional charges stemming from earlier drug shipments linked to Cook. The situation remains under close scrutiny as the complexities of the case evolve.
