A Springfield aide to Governor Maura Healey was arrested on charges related to cocaine trafficking. LaMar Cook, 45, was taken into custody on Tuesday night after police seized a substantial shipment of eight kilograms of cocaine. LaMar Cook held the position of deputy director in the office of Western Massachusetts. He earned an annual salary of $115,668. On his LinkedIn profile, Cook described his role as a key liaison between the state government and the western region of Massachusetts. His responsibilities included managing and coordinating government policies across four counties.

Investigation Details

The ongoing investigation has revealed that the current case connects to prior drug seizures earlier this month. On October 10, authorities intercepted two packages containing 13 kilograms of cocaine at Hotel UMass in Amherst. This incident is part of a broader investigation into drug-related activities.

Governor Healey’s Response

Cook was appointed by Governor Healey in 2023 and previously served as the director of the UMass hotel. In her announcement, Healey highlighted Cook and another director, Kristen Elechko, as experienced leaders with strong ties to the community. She praised their knowledge of local businesses and the needs of the region.
