FIFA and ASEAN Unveil New Regional Football Partnership

The global football body FIFA and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have reaffirmed their commitment to football development in a new partnership. This was marked by the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the 47th ASEAN Summit, held in Kuala Lumpur.

The MoU was signed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn. The signing ceremony was also attended by Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN Chair, Anwar Ibrahim.

As part of this strengthened partnership, FIFA announced the creation of the FIFA ASEAN Cup. This new tournament aims to mirror the successful format of the FIFA Arab Cup, bringing together member associations from the ASEAN region.
