On a recent evening, a significant power outage impacted Capreol and parts of Hanmer. At 10:19 p.m., Greater Sudbury Hydro reported that the entire town of Capreol was without electricity. The outage extended to various areas of Hanmer, affecting hundreds of residents.

Details of the Outage

According to Greater Sudbury Hydro’s media release, the initial cause of the blackout was unclear. However, trees falling on hydro lines were suspected. As the situation developed, additional information became available.

Updates on Restoration Efforts

By 11 p.m., Greater Sudbury Hydro clarified that a tree had indeed fallen on a power line, leading to the outage. They indicated that they were awaiting assistance from Hydro One to safely remove the obstruction before proceeding with restoration efforts.

  • The town of Capreol was fully without power.
  • Parts of Hanmer were also affected.
  • A total of 1,604 customers in the Capreol area experienced outages, extending southwest to Hanmer.
  • An additional 462 customers in the region south and east of Hanmer faced power loss.

Hydro One dispatched a crew to address the situation. Initially, restoration was estimated to be complete by 1 a.m. However, as of the last update, no precise time for power restoration had been confirmed.
