Plymouth Teeth Whitening Salon Owner Jailed for Rape Conviction

A Plymouth man has been sentenced to 26 years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offences, including eight counts of rape. Ricky Stubberfield, 31, operated a teeth-whitening business and used social media to lure women with offers of free treatments.

Plymouth Teeth Whitening Salon Owner Convicted

Stubberfield, residing in Walnut Gardens, Plympton, was found guilty of 23 offences committed between 2013 and 2024. These included the abuse of seven women, with the majority of incidents occurring at the Essex Smiles teeth-whitening salon on Mutley Plain.

Details of the Crimes

The court revealed that Stubberfield contacted young women via social media, promising free whitening treatments in exchange for promoting his business. His predatory behaviour led to the sexual assault of three women who responded to his offers, as well as two regular clients. Other assaults occurred at various locations, including a concert, between 2013 and 2022.

  • Eight counts of rape
  • Nine counts of sexual assault
  • Four counts of digital penetration
  • Indecent exposure
  • Making an indecent image of a child

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on three additional charges of rape and related offences.

Victim Statements Highlight Trauma

In court, victims described profound emotional scars. One victim moved away from Plymouth, saying it was a place of pain. Another shared feelings of constant shame and guilt. A third highlighted suffering from suicidal thoughts, expressing the extensive damage caused by Stubberfield’s actions.

Police Response and Community Impact

Devon and Cornwall Police began their investigation in February 2022 when a 16-year-old girl reported sexual abuse by Stubberfield. Notably, one incident occurred in a disabled toilet during a concert, and another in the back of his vehicle. He was arrested in June 2024.

Detective Constable Kezia Worden commented on the case, stating it sends a strong message about the intolerance of violence against women and girls. She praised the victims for their courage in coming forward.
