Canadiens Recall Owen Beck Amid Multiple Player Injuries

The Montreal Canadiens faced multiple player injuries despite securing a comeback victory against the Nashville Predators. The team has confirmed that defenseman Kaiden Guhle will be sidelined for four to six weeks due to a lower-body injury. Meanwhile, center Kirby Dach and winger Patrik Laine are listed as day-to-day with similar injuries.

Injury Updates on Canadiens Players

Guhle, who was performing well this season, made a significant contribution on the ice. He recorded one goal and one assist in his first five games, accompanied by five blocks and 16 hits in just over 19 minutes per game. This latest injury will mark the continuation of Guhle’s struggles, as he has missed at least a dozen games due to injuries in each of his previous NHL seasons.

In Guhle’s absence, Arber Xhekaj will step into the lineup, taking his place as a defensive option. Additionally, the Canadiens are expected to recall another defenseman soon to bolster their lineup for the upcoming games.

Dach and Laine Status

Center Kirby Dach is recovering from a knee injury that prematurely ended his previous season. In the early part of this campaign, the Canadiens have been cautious with his playing time. Dach has averaged just 14 minutes and 29 seconds on the ice while contributing one goal and one assist, primarily anchoring the third line.

Winger Patrik Laine is also experiencing difficulties this season, currently having only one assist in five appearances. Playing mostly on the fourth line, Laine’s day-to-day injury could provide him with an opportunity for a much-needed break to reset his performance in this contract year.

Owen Beck’s Emergency Recall

In light of these injuries, the Canadiens have recalled center Owen Beck from their AHL affiliate, Laval Rocket, on an emergency basis. Beck was among the final cuts in training camp for the second consecutive year, narrowly missing a spot on the roster. So far, he has played three games with Laval, during which he has tallied one goal and one assist.

During his rookie AHL season, Beck had an impressive performance, accumulating 44 points in 64 games. He also participated in 12 games with the Canadiens last season, recording one assist. His recall could add depth to the Canadiens’ lineup as they navigate these player injuries.
