Atlanta Denies NBA YoungBoy Key to the City

Rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again recently performed in Atlanta, where it was initially reported he received a key to the city. However, city officials later clarified that he was not officially awarded this recognition.

Atlanta Officials Deny NBA YoungBoy Received Key to the City

The Mayor’s Office of Film, Entertainment, and Nightlife (AMOFEN) issued a statement confirming that no key had been bestowed upon YoungBoy. The office explained that the recognition stemmed from representatives of Fulton County and the State of Georgia instead.

  • “While we respect all individuals and agencies who choose to recognize cultural or community impact, the City of Atlanta was not involved in this presentation,” the statement read.
  • AMOFEN also mentioned that it has not granted a key to the city for a considerable time.
  • The office concluded by wishing attendees an enjoyable concert and emphasized their commitment to transparency.

YoungBoy’s Performance and Controversial Lyrics

Following the confusion about the key, YoungBoy launched into his performance of “I Hate YoungBoy.” The track, released in 2022, features pointed remarks aimed at Atlanta rappers like Lil Baby and Gucci Mane.

  • In the song, YoungBoy criticizes Gucci: “Used to fuck with Gucci ’til I seen he like them pussy ni–as.”
  • He also targets Lil Baby with the line: “Want me for to die? Tell that pussy, ‘Cross the line.’”

Joining YoungBoy on Stage

During his performance, YoungBoy was accompanied by notable officials, including:

  • Kenya Johnson, Fulton County Probate Judge
  • Ingo Willis, Georgia State Representative
  • Marvin Arrington, Fulton County Commissioner

These officials recognized YoungBoy for his influence on hip-hop, anti-gun violence initiatives, and philanthropy.

A Brief History of the Key to the City

The last rapper to receive the Key to the City of Atlanta was Ludacris in 2004. This recognition was given for his contributions through the Ludacris Foundation.

In a recent comment, Birdman predicted that YoungBoy’s live shows could become a billion-dollar venture in the next few years. He estimated that upcoming performances could easily gross three to four hundred million dollars.

As fans look forward to future events, upcoming ComplexCon in Las Vegas is set for October 25-26, 2025. The event will feature over 300 brands and performances from various artists, including Young Thug and Peso Pluma.
