RBI League Teens Conclude Season with Fenway Park Showcase Games

On September 18, dozens of participants from the Red Sox Foundation’s RBI League gathered at Fenway Park for a grand finale showcase. Sponsored by Nike, this event featured exciting baseball and softball games, highlighting the talents and teamwork of young athletes.
RBI League Season Ending Showcase at Fenway Park
The showcase was an extraordinary opportunity for players, including twins Jack and Dylan Kelly from Dorchester. They realized a lifelong dream as they played on the historic field, an experience many players only wish for.
Sibling Rivalry and Connection
During one of the games, Dylan, playing catcher, prevented Jack from stealing second base. Conversely, Jack later tagged out Dylan attempting to reach third. Both twins reveled in the friendly competition. “I didn’t want to look foolish letting my brother steal on me,” said Jack, while Dylan noted, “I got a good jump and threw him out.” This playful exchange underscored their close bond.
Life-Changing Experience
Both boys described their RBI League experience as transformative. Having been fans of the Red Sox their entire lives, playing at Fenway Park was monumental. “We grew up watching baseball, and to play where the pros do is surreal,” Dylan shared.
The RBI League
The Red Sox Foundation has actively supported the RBI League, which runs from May to September at various city fields. This season, the Foundation hosted a special showcase to recognize players for their skills and leadership qualities.
Event Highlights
- Special dinner for players before the game
- Distribution of ‘City Connect’ uniforms
- Coaching assistance from former Red Sox players like Brock Holt
Families and friends gathered in the stands, cheering for their young athletes. Aliah Rosa, another player from Dorchester, took the plate during the showcase, showcasing her skills in front of an enthusiastic audience.
Career Development
Jack and Dylan’s baseball journey began at Savin Hill T-Ball and progressed through Dorchester Baseball. Recently, they have played for the top-rated Oregon State Beavers team in the Babe Ruth League. They credit their father’s coaching with shaping their instincts on the field.
The twins also appreciated the diverse experience the RBI League provided. “Being around older players during mixed practices elevated our game,” Dylan explained. “Catching 80 mph pitches was a new level of challenge.”
Future Aspirations
After their successful RBI season, the twins are now competing in “Fall Ball” with hopes of making their high school varsity team. Looking ahead, they also plan to engage with the RBI League again next summer, eager to continue their growth in the sport.
