U.S. Expects Pulisic Return; Robinson Confirmed Out

United States men’s national soccer team manager Mauricio Pochettino is closely monitoring the status of AC Milan forward Christian Pulisic ahead of a friendly against Australia. Pulisic is recovering from an ankle injury and participated in training, but a final decision on his availability will be made by Tuesday.

Pulisic’s Progress and Potential Return

Pochettino reported that Pulisic has shown significant improvement since suffering his ankle injury. He recently played approximately 20 minutes during a match against Ecuador, and his reaction to the game was encouraging. The manager stated:

“I think the reaction after the 20 minutes playing [against Ecuador] was good. His ankle reacted very well, and I hope that tomorrow he can be available.”

Robinson Ruled Out Due to Knee Issues

In contrast, Fulham defender Antonee Robinson has been confirmed out for the friendly match due to ongoing knee pain. Pochettino explained that Robinson has been struggling with this issue since the start of the training camp.

“Antonee has a small issue in his knee, a little bit of pain. We are managing him in the best way, but he cannot be involved in training and definitely won’t play tomorrow,” Pochettino said.

Strategic Lineup Considerations

As for the team’s approach against Australia, Pochettino is contemplating whether to maintain the current lineup or integrate new players into the mix. He emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for players to assert themselves ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

  • Potential changes in the starting lineup are likely.
  • Pochettino is considering tactical adjustments to improve performance.
  • Players will be given a chance to show their capability.

Facing Australia

Pochettino noted that the Australian team is well-organized and will pose a significant challenge. He remarked that their solid playing style is likely to push the U.S. team to perform at its best.

“Australia is going to help us improve in various aspects, not just game plan, but in duels and other situations on the pitch,” he added.
