Blue Jays Appoint Yesavage as Game 2 ALCS Starter
The Toronto Blue Jays have confirmed rookie Trey Yesavage as the starting pitcher for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS), set for Monday. This announcement was made during a press conference ahead of Game 1 at Rogers Centre.
Yesavage Addresses Social Media Criticism
In his address to the media, Yesavage expressed his discontent regarding the negative comments directed towards his family on social media. He stated, “Living in this world where there’s so many different opinions and feelings, which results in a lot of hate, it’s sad to see that people close to me are being attacked for my performances on the field.”
Yesavage emphasized that his loved ones, including his parents and girlfriend, do not deserve the backlash they receive due to his professional performance. He refrained from providing further details on the issue. He is not alone in this sentiment, as Yankees’ pitcher Cam Schlittler previously voiced similar concerns about online harassment targeting his family.
Fifth Major League Start
For Yesavage, Game 2 will mark his fifth career outing in Major League Baseball. His most recent performance was particularly notable; he had a remarkable game against the Yankees in the AL Division Series, throwing 5⅓ no-hit innings and achieving 11 strikeouts.
Mariners’ Starting Pitcher Uncertainty
While the Blue Jays have made their decision, the Seattle Mariners are still determining their Game 2 starter. Logan Gilbert is anticipated to take the mound, although this decision has yet to be finalized. Gilbert recently pitched in a high-stakes Game 5 against the Tigers, where he allowed one run in six innings. He had a limited appearance in a previous game, throwing 34 pitches over two innings.
As the ALCS progresses, all eyes will be on Yesavage as he steps into this crucial role, aiming to lead the Blue Jays to victory.
